Bengaluru, Nov 6: The excise department provides more and more income to the government every year. Because of some software problem in Khajane-2, and as enough budget was not released to suffice disbursal of salary, the staff of the department have not got their salaries for the last eight months. As a result, most of the staff are struggling to manage expenses.
For the year 2020-21, the government has set an income target of Rs 22,700 crore for the department. The government earns between Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,000 crore every month through sale of liquor. But budget allocation to the department has been meagre, because of which disbursal of pay has been withheld. Khajane -2 software problem and server problem have compounded the problem.

Human resources management system has been shifted from Khajane-1 to Khajane-2 software. The problem has emanated because of this. In the past, salary was disbursed once bills were prepared and submitted to the treasury through Khajane-1. But now, bill preparation, submission to treasury, deposit, payment, deposit management etc are being handled through Khajane-2 which is delaying payment of salary, it is said.
