Panaji: Govt appoints administrators as 11 municipal bodies term end

Panaji, Nov 6: After the five year term of 11 municipal bodies ended on November 4, the government issued an order for the appointment of administrators with immediate effect. The general elections for these civic bodies was scheduled on October 18, but it couldn't be conducted due to the ongoing pandemic.

The state election commission has deferred the elections by two to three months. Referring to Bihar elections, recently, the BJP president said that Goa state too can hold elections to local bodies by ECI with necessary safety measures.

Dr Tariq Thomas, director of municipal administration issued the order under the Goa Municipalities Act. Prasanna Acharya has been appointed to head the Margao Municipal Council, for the Mormugao Municipal Council Gurudas Pilarnkar has been posted. Paresh Phaldesai to Mapusa Council while Vikas Gaunekar to Bicholim Council, Florina S Colaco to the Cuncolim Council, Ashutosh Apte to the Curchorem-Cachora council, Deepali Naik to the Quepem Council, Rajesh Ajgaonkar to the Valpoi Council, Nilesh Dhaigodkar to the Sanguem Council, Johnson Fernandes to the Canacona Council and Ravishenkar Nipanikar to the Pernem Council.
