Raigad Court sends Arnab Goswami to 14-day judicial custody

Raigad (Maharashtra), Nov 5 (IANS): A Raigad Magistrate has remanded Republic TV Managing Director and Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami to 14 days' judicial custody after a marathon five-hour hearing here late on Wednesday night.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate rejected the prosecution's plea for 14 days' police custody for Goswami, who was arrested early on Wednesday morning in a case concerning the twin suicides of architect Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik on May 5, 2018.

"The police have lost...," Goswami shouted out of a police van and displayed the V-sign after the court hearing.

His team is expected to move the same court for bail on Thursday.

    It may be for political reasons, but Maharashtra police finally is acting under different political dispensation. I hope they do a proper job this time around. Clearly, Arnab is enjoying political patronage to run his "independent" media house.

    If Arnab (Name rhymes with embarrassing shouting festival with least intellectual content/intent) is wrong, he should be thrown behind bars.

    why Architect killed his mother before killing himself? if it was a financial distress, it didn't bother other family members.. did he spare them to file a police case later...just asking,,
    Secondly, case was closed in the court. Why police did not approach court before reopening it. it shows ruling party in a hurry to trap him anyhow..

    Just like in hatras isnt it ?? Why did they have to ignore the dying statement of the victim, why did they have to burn the body without the family consent or presence ? Why werent the journalists allowed to visit hatras or the family??
    This shows the ruling party going out of the way to save the criminals.

    In hatharas case, the lapses by police was admitted. DM & SP was transferred. Do u agree that police illegally opened the shut case without court permission due to political pressure and arrested him to take their revenge.

    No police force can ever do that kind of mistake without the blessings and directions of a political force. I am not denying the same in arnab case also. But look at two cases differently. In hatras it was an innocent girl who was raped, murdered in cold blood, her dying statement ignored, body burnt without the family and all because of a mighty pokitical force behind it. But in arnabs case it was again a sucide note, which shouldn't have been ignored by the then bjp govt, but ooened now. Whats wrong in it?? Arnab has been named in the sucide note. Here the political force and police force took action, unlike hatras.

    Did it occur to you that he will be leaving his mother at the whims and fancies of his wife and kids?
    Today, nobody respects anyone. Let alone the mother-in-law.
    I am not saying he did it right. But he probably had reasons including love and respect for his mother for the rest of her life in his absence.
    Today we are in a world where, we are OK to adopt pets and spend millions on them. But parents and in-laws are considered worst enough to not get that entitlement.
    India's treatment of their elders runs contrary to our perceived respect for elders. It is a fact and it is a shame too.

If people are so agitated with Arnabs arrest, bringing even the home minister to respond, I wonder, why have they all been silent with hatras and Sanjiv Bhat Why have they been so busy in silencing voices of dissent.

    Arnab Goswami is not above the law of the land. He is arrested in invidual case of abetment to suicide. So why should India fight for him? Why should the genreral public should protest against MAHA Govt or Police? Police have done their duty. Its very strange and surprising that some of the Central BJP Ministers, RSS leaders and other learers are supporting Arnab Goswamy.Where were those leaders when girls are raped and burnt in UP and other states? Arnab Goswamys Republic Tv channel was openly backing BJP/RSS people. BJP MP Rajeev Chandrshekar is a share holder of Repuplic Media. No doubt Arnab Goswamy will be made Rajya Sabha member very soon! Arnab Goswami should realise that everybody is equal in front of law. Godi Media cant fool the public everytime.
