Mangaluru: Mithun Rai poses 'Road Challenge', asks BJP delegates to travel via Shiradi Ghat

Mangaluru, Nov 4: District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai on Wednesday November 4 tweeted to highlight the road condition of the Shiradi Ghat. His tweet read, "I request all the leaders & State Exec. committee members of the @BJP4Karnataka who are traveling to Dakshina Kannada district to attend the State Committee meeting, to travel by the National Highway via Sakleshpur by Shiradi Ghat , make videos & share it on the Social Media...."

The tweet came up in the wake of the state's special executive meeting to be held on November 5 at T V Raman Pai Hall. The entire city is bedecked to welcome chief minister Yediyurappa to the executive meeting.

Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, deputy chief minister Govind M Kajrol, BJP state vice president Aravind Limbavali, ministers C T Ravi, R Ashok, Jagadish Shettar and other leaders will be attending the meeting in Mangaluru.

It may be recalled that district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai poses ‘Road Challenge’ to highway minister.

Netizens also challenged the BJP leaders in social media, to travel by road via Sakleshpur by Shiradi Ghat to check the pathetic condition of the road. The public is irked on the conditions of the road which has already claimed several lives in various accidents.

    I have travelled in National Highway Bangalore to Managlore a month back, From Hassan except sakaleshpur city Limit and Shiradi Ghat concrete road till Gundya is excellent other part its not a "ROAD" just Tulu word" Toodu" non motorable A Big Shame that a region pay second highest tax in Karnataka is completely IGNORED

    I am surprised why roads get damaged so quickly in India, whereas I see roads of other countries in similar condition (particularly heavy rain countries such as Malaysia) remains good.... !!!

    BJP and Congress comes later, because money for the roads comes from our tax money. Hence, we need to make sure our newly constructed roads survive for minimum 10 years and repaired road sustain for minimum 5 years...

    Many reasons
    First is employment generation. If they lay roads to last for several years, then how will the poor contractor and his workers survive. It is a golden goose that has to go on laying golden eggs. That, the gold comes from our tax money is nobody's bother.
    Second is shoddy corrupt engineers. Today we have the technology to send satellites to space and moon and what not. We have IITs and IIScs etc.But still, we do not have technology to build roads which can withstand monsoons. Things have gotten only worse. During my younger days, the roads built used to be banked well and consideration used to be given to water drainage. Now nobody bothers. Just concretise everything in whatever alignment. Amost all the highways have water pools collecting near the median. The Udupi Manipal highway has water flowing from one carriageway to another carriageway like a stream just after Indrali. Depts like NHAI and PWD, I guess have only "ooruda mesthri". No engineers or very corrupt engineers who are only interested in greasing their palms

    The roads/ pavements in Mangalore itself are enough for such an challenge. Let the CM/ MP's/ MLA's agree for something as simple as a blindfold challenge. They will have to walk blindfolded on stretches of the city roads/ pavements selected by representatives from the city residents. If they come through unscathed they are fit to govern us.

    Why go to Shiradi ghat,in Mangalore "Smart"city 50% of the roads are non-motorable, fit only for moon walkers who have practice of walking over craters.

    Dear Sir,
    We people of Kudla who are settled in Bangalore due to our jobs wait to come to our mother land when we get an opportunity. Its difficult to travel with senior citizens and children on this Road. Now a days it is taking more than 6 hours from Hassan to Mangalore as the roads from Hassan to Sakaleshpur is also pathetic. By the time we reach Mangalore, its like coming out of a roll a costar ride and the respective vehicle drivers are completely exhausted. Request respective authorities to pitch in and do the needful so that our glory of Mangalore can be retained and can promote tourism. Thank you for reading this.

    The way projects are planned, hereafter ghats will be plains and viceversa. Solid natural blocks are broken through heavy tools and construction of buildings and roads is underway and people have to struggle to reach destinations because the roads are washed away for even small rains overnight.

    Dear Mithun Rai,
    Why you are not raising the issue of need of Nanthoor Junction fly over .Problem of traffic eveyday or throughout the day is great.laks of people suffer including the traffic people to handle the traffic problem.
    Our M.P has completed already 12 years ,i think he wait for the silver jubilee to do the flyover at Nanthoor junction.
    Pls raise this issue in the intest of the city public

    Nantoor Flyover isn't needed. Traffic lights will be enough. And we don't want Nantoor to turn into a concrete jungle with a flyover.

    Money spent for elections of ruling parties comes from these holes in the road....both parties are doing same thing when they are ruling...

    Congress netas, must have constructive plans, to revive an old aged horse... They will be under close scrutiny... In order to gain back the lost confidence, mere blocking of roads n creating a nusiance, will certainly be counter productive !!!! This is not going to be a cake walk, but a herculean task !!!
