Karkala, May 3: Girish Devadiga, a photographer in Dwaraka Studio, here has suffered deep ear injury allegedly after being beaten up by the sub-inspector of Karkala police station.
Speaking at a press meet organized by the Karkala Devadiga Sangha and photographer’s association on Saturday May 1 Karkala Souharda Vedike president and town municipal member Shubadh Rao leveled the above allegations. Explaining the incident to media persons, Rao said, “On April 26 night when Girish was returning from dinner along with his friends the sub-inspector took him and his friends to police station. On being questioned as to why they were brought to the station, the SI slapped Girish hard and also took away Rs 3,000 and a mobile phone. He also took Girish’s signature on a blank paper. Without permitting communication with anyone they were locked in the cell whole night”.
However, when Girish developed a severe ear pain he was taken to the doctor on April 29. On examination the doctor told him that he has a suffered damage to his ear drums and suggested immediate treatment.
The members of Karkala Devadiga Sangha and photographer’s association have demanded careful investigation on the matter and stern action against the SI for attacking the innocent person and causing severe injury.
Girish has lodged a complaint regarding the matter to the district police superintendent and a copy of the complaint letter has also been given to Human Rights Commission and the other concerned authorities. The members warned of a public protest if the required action is not taken.
Devadiga Sangha president Raju Devadiga, secretary Ravindra Moily, photographer’s association president K M Khaleel, Dwaraka Niranjan, Vivekananda Shenoy and victim Girish Devadiga among others were present.
