Bahrain, Apr 27: The Bahrain Hockey Association (BHA) will host the Spectrum Advertising 1st Bahrain 6 A Side Open Field Hockey Tournament on Friday April 30 and Saturday May 1 at the St Christopher’s School Grounds in Saar, Bahrain, from 9 am to 6 pm.
The BHA has been promoting the development of field hockey as a sport in the Kingdom of Bahrain for the past 30 years and has an active team in place.
Teams have already confirmed from Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait, and Doha.
Played on artificial turf, the tournament will feature competitions in men’s, women’s, and mixed categories. Entry is free for spectators. The grounds will also feature DJs, food stalls, and soft drink stalls apart from children’s activity areas for a fun-filled family day out.
Tournament partners include Spectrum Advertising, BMI, Clay Oven, Coca Cola, Champs, Gulf Weekly, Radio Voice, Design Grafix, Writer Relocation and ASTA Neon.
Bahrain, being one of the first GCC countries to introduce field hockey in the GCC, has always taken the first step in the game and is known as a pioneer of the sport in the Middle East.
The BHA members decided that the association needs to be revived to introduce more tournaments for teams within Bahrain as well as outside. An honorary committee was elected by the BHA comprising of Zarner Vaz (president), Rubert Castellion (vice-president), Anson Sequeira (general secretary), Jude D’Souza (assistant general secretary), Vincent Nelson (treasurer), and Mohammed Tahir Mir (umpires chairman).
