Mangaluru: Unauthorised meat sale - Mayor warns vendors of licence cancellation

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 24: City mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, said that the city corporation here has been receiving numerous complaints about sale of meat brought from other states and districts in the meat shops in the city. He has asked the 20 meat vendors functioning within the city corporation limits not to bring meat from other states and districts for sale.

"If it is found that these shops are bringing meat without authorisation as above, the licences of the shops will be cancelled. All the meat vendors functioning in the city have to acquire meat from the authorised slaughterhouse under the city corporation and sell the same at their shops. He also said that the owners of meat shops have to obtain and maintain receipts with details when buying meat from the slaughterhouse as above.

He explained that when an animal is being taken to the slaughterhouse, it should be always carried in the special permission vehicles (SPV) registered with the transport department and asked the slaughterhouse owners to take measures to implement the same.

    Mayor Sir,

Do you have any idea from where Goa is getting meat from ? Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Do you have authority to stop it flowing (from Karnataka) into Goa ? Then, please don't deprive people of Karnataka too, of what they want to eat. When Saffron groups don't allow meat to be procured without giving them their deserved Hafta within Karnataka, vendors will get from outside. As long as they are selling it on licensed stalls, not doing illegal business, I don't think anybody has power to stop it.
