Mangaluru, Oct 22: Because of heavy rainfall, garbage of the city heaped at Pachanady had suffered landslide and huge amount of garbage had slid down to Mandara area, destroying houses, property and agricultural fields a year ago. The high court, when hearing a public interest litigation filed by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, had ordered the government to permit the city corporation here to pledge its properties to raise loans towards disbursing the compensation due, which has been pending disbursement even after repeated promises.
The state government has since released Rs 14 crore towards disbursement of compensation to the affected families. This was stated by MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty and D Vedavyasa Kamath, in a release.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and the MLAs had submitted a petition to the government to release Rs 20 crore, which is the estimated amount of the compensation, to people of Mandara area affected by the landslide.
The legislators stated that the government has released this amount out of SFC special grant for the year 2019-20. They recalled that a sum of Rs eight crore had been released in the past to make compensation payment to the affected people.
