Kuwait: KKMA Elects New Office Bearers for 2010-12

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) has got new faces to lead for the year 2010-12.

Abdul Fattah Thayyil is the new president and A P Abdul Salam is the general secretary. The eighth General Council Meeting held at Abbasiya K K M A auditorium formed a well organized new central committee as follows. K Siddique as chief patron, Sageer Trikaripoor as chairman, P K Akbar Siddique and N A Muneer as vice-chairmen, Muhammed Ali Mathra as chief financial officer, Ibrahim Kunnil as working president, B M Iqbal, K C Rafeeque, A V Mustafa, Muneer Kodi, Mustafa Hamza Payyanoor and H Ali Kutty Haji as vice-presidents, K Basheer as organizing secretary, Shukoor Maniyanodi as administraton secretary, Rayin Kutty Haji, Basheer Meladi, Razak Meladi and Muneer Thuruthi as secretaries, Sayyed Rafeek as treasurer, C K Sathar as finance secretary and Subair Haji as investment secretary were elected.

The general council meeting was a show of strength and celebration by a community organization.  About 300 delegates representing 15 unit committees of KKMA across the state attended general council meeting.  The meeting commenced with Holy Quran recitation by Muneer Thuruthy followed by the welcome speech of organizing secretary K Basheer. The house observed prayers for its 46 members who passed away since the inception of the organization in December 2001.

N A Muneer, KKMA president presided. The general council meeting was inaugurated by P K Akbar Siddique, vice chairman of the organization.  General secretary Abdul Fatah Thayyil presented a detailed activity report of the association for the period 2006-2008, stating that the association has achieved 100 per cent of its targets set for this period and targeting for the coming years of 12,000 membership strength.

KKMA formed in December 2001is the largest social organization of Indian nationals in Kuwait. The organization currently has 9,500 plus members. Treasurer Mohammad Ali Matra supported by finance Secretary C K Sathar presented the audited accounts for an income of KD 132,165.000 and expenditure of 113,221.000.

Chairman Sageer Trikaripur, delivered a speech over the topic Organization and changes in priorities. “Love and Mercy are the indivisible part of the social work and miracles are generated where organizations and individual aims come together”, he said.

Achievements

During the past eight years, KKMA, in line with its motto of aid and development has successfully established several benefit schemes for its members.  The major achievement was the planning and implementation of Family Benefit Scheme (FBS) for the benefit of the family of the organization's deceased members. The association also have implemented a Members’ Welfare Scheme (MWS) for assisting its members in the hour of need. The organization was able to provide financial support to its members for emergency medical treatment in India and provide air ticket for returning home in difficult conditions among others

The KKMA Investment Club was one of its kind among NRIs in gulf countries and the club consisting 1,700 members successfully has invested in various investment projects in India.

On social development side, the organizations visionary project to establish a series of kidney dialysis centers in each district of Kerala state started implementation in 2004 and now has six such centers functioning in six cities of Kerala and Karnataka states. The sixth one was inaugurated at Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala last Friday.

The association has implemented Student Adoption Programme to financially support the brilliant but poor students in Kerala state of India. The association also provided financial aid for the needy poor amongst the community in Kuwait and Kerala.

The general council also elected the following as the leaders for its various work groups. H Abdul Gafoor (family benefit scheme), Kuttiyali Haji (members' welfare scheme), Latheef Edayoor ( Relief), Hassan balla Kadapuram (Religious, V Ashraf (Help), O M Shafi (membership),N Abdul Majeed (skill Development), Faisal Thalassery (Literary), P T Abdul Azeez (Student Adoption), K M Shajahan (Employment), Shaheed Labba (facility management), Abdulla Choori (Hajj, Umara), S M Farooque, Abdulla Mulla (arts & sports) and K C Abdul Gafoor (News).

R V Abdul Hameed Moulavi and Valancheri Mohammed Moulavi are the members of religious advisory committee, while K P Kunhimoosa and E K Abdulla were re-elected as association’s co-ordinators in India.
