Mangaluru, Oct 6: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) opposition leader Abdul Rauf said, "The income generated by MCC from the central market has stopped due to ineffective decisions taken in the name of corona pandemic."
Addressing the media here on Tuesday October 6, Abdul Rauf said, "As many as 450 traders at central market and coolie workers who were dependent at central market were dragged to streets. Central market was closed down in the name of corona pandemic without any preparations and alternative arrangements. They were asked to shift to APMC market overnight without any planning. The income generation of Rs one crore from the central market traders to the city corporation has completely stopped.
"On the other hand, temporary arrangements for retailers have been made illegally at the cost of Rs 4.84 lac on footpaths near town hall, but the place is not suitable for vegetable and fruits vendors. MCC are paying rent for the temporary arrangements. This is nothing but the failure of district administration.
“When Congress was in power at MCC, during the construction of Alake, Kadri, Kankanady, Bejai, Kavoor, and Urwa market, alternative arrangements were made. But the BJP government has dragged the traders to the streets from the central market without any planning,” said Abdul Rauf.
Corporator Lancelot Pinto, Praveen Chandra Alva, Vinayraj, Shamshuddin, Bhaskar K, Anil Kumar, Keshava and others were present.
