Mangaluru, Oct 6: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr K V Rajendra, has issued an order in connection with regulating COVID-19. He has said that schools and colleges, educational and training institutions etc can take a decision to open them after October 15 in phases.

"Academic activities will be permitted subject to favourable conditions after consulting the management committees of the schools and institutions. They have to continue with online, distance education. If students choose online education, the same should be permitted. Students who choose online classes should be allowed to do so. Students can attend schools only with written permission from their parents or guardians. Attendance should not be made compulsory," he said.

He said that relating to reopening of colleges and institutions of higher education, the department of higher education, in consultation with the union human resources department, will make a decision on the basis of the conditions prevailing. In the case of higher education institutions, only for the research scholars (PhD) and postgraduate students who need to participate laboratory and experimental activities needed for the science and technology studies they undertake, will be permitted from October 15 onwards with certain preconditions," he stated in his order.

The DC also mentioned that swimming pools used for sports training will be permitted to be opened from October 15 onward. Cinema halls, theatres, multiplexes etc can reopen in places other than containment zones with 50 per cent seating capacity. In th US 97k students were affected after schools reopened. I think there could be an age shift analysis done where students could be put again in the same class.

Yes. Attendance is not mandatory till the epidemic vanishes. Those who are willing to go to school , let them go. Those children will be aware of cleanliness and maintain sanctity of themselves and surroundings. At my place, children are busy playing tennis and other games. It has happened with parents consent by paying play fees. If the children accidentally fall sick, such children can skip schools for time being. Let others march to school. All the best, children. Have a nice time.

No educated and literate bloke would take the risk of sending their beloved child to school during this pandemic and to top that up give a written direction to the school that the parents are sending their child with their consent.. Its best to avoid unless a reliable and proven vaccine comes into the market.. Best is to carry on online and offline classes for now...

Very well . But what about fees reduction . Due to corona most of the time we have studied online through our infrastructure. Students who didn’t have WiFi and phones had to purchase it . Who is going to talk about this . There must be fees reduction since we have used our own infrastructure .

Exactly. To the point answer. People like to debate on each and every news. There are 2 sections of parents, 1 waiting for schools to open and 2nd wants to continue online. When option is given why so much hue and cry? Do whatever you want. Simple.

Sir, do you take responsibility of transporting the students by hiring autos to and fro with safety measures and arranging sanitation and masks for them? Will you arrange proper toilet facilities which many school don't maintain cleanliness and no water at all ....will you arrange soap and water for those who have mid day meals and eat in the canteens....and appoint people to maintain 6 feet distance? Phasewise, parents cant send because their offices don't work phase wise... request is, those who want to stay at home and continue with online classes...let institutions arrange that way and those who want to go daily let them study by doing so.... don't put pressure on children and parents' as you want....please...

Since no. of corona cases are increasing day by day it is better to defer to open schools/colleges till some progress is achieved. Otherwise the children may bring the virus to home and home people specially aged persons will become the victims of this horrible disease.

People have started becoming complacent, across India, even when the infection has not peaked out!
There is a surge of people rushing to weekend destinations after lifting of curbs!
All protocols are being violated in crowded places not understanding the consequences!
One should understand that what we are seeing is a pent up demand of 6 months lockdown! It will fizzle out soon as people will be forced to pay back 7 months accumulated loans along with compounded interests of 7%!
Rentals have already fallen by 29% & 1000s of flats up for sale!
Now govt is giving permission to roadside eateries for online deliveries through Swiggy, which will finish the already strained hotel industry!
The worst is yet to come especially in densely populated & poor countries like India!
    Fingers crossed!
