Mangalore, Apr 16: The teachers involved in the valuation of SSLC examination papers protested against government boycotting from the valuation centres as per the call given by the Karnataka State High School Assistant Masters' Association (KSHSAMA) on Thursday April 15.
The teachers boycotted opposing the excess work burden that includes participation in census and election duties along with the valuation. The district administration has ordered the teachers to participate in Census, while revenue department to participate in the election duty, and education department valuation of SSLC papers, said Manjunath Kumar K K, organizing secretary of KSHSAMA.
"The demands of the teachers have not been fulfilled despite written request to our representatives and ministers," he said adding that the duties have been assigned without listening to our demands," he added.
The main demand is wages for SSLC evaluators on par with PUC evaluators. At present there is a vast difference with SSLC evaluators getting only half as much as the PUC evaluators, said Manjunath. The allotment of teachers is also not done on the seniority basis, he added.
There are 1,200 to 1,500 teachers in the city, who are involved in valuation of SSLC papers in six centres and presently boycotting. The valuation will continue from Friday.
