Kaup, Oct 3: Bumper fish catch was reported by Sri Laxmi Janardhana Kairampani Fund that had laid out its net on Friday October 2.
Huge heaps of different kinds of fishes weighing several tonnes, which were totally abnormal, were found in the net when it was hauled on to the seashore. The fishermen had to strive hard to drag the net to the shore the entire day. Exotic variety of fishes were separated on the spot and transported to Bunder while loads of small fishers were transported to the fish mill. Fish were sold at low rates on the spot. Thousands of fishes struggled hard and jumped out of the net, and the net also tore at several places.
Somanath Suvarna, representative of Sri Laxmi Janardhana Kairampani Fund Yermal, said that the fishes naturally get accumulated at places that are colder because of the change in temperatures caused by clouds and rain. The fishes many a time move towards the shore depending on the movement of wind, he said. He said his team is happy about this huge catch.
"But we could not manage the huge catch in a proper way. This gave rise to a problem. As the fish catch was huge and fishes struggled, our nets tore off and fish worth lacs of rupees fell back into the sea," he lamented.
