Udupi, Oct 2: Yuvashakti Karnataka started a 12-hour hunger strike on Friday, October 2 urging the upgradation of district government hospital, Ajjarkad. The committee said that if their demand is neglected, fierce protest will be held in coming days.
The protest started after introductory speech by Dr P V Bhandary at 7 am, who conveyed the importance of government hospital in the city.
Pramod Uchil, state president of Yuvashakti Karnataka, Belkale Sharath Shetty, vice president, Habib Udupi, Sajjan Shetty, Ajay Kappettu, Hammad, Shahid Raza Udupi, Sharan, Naveed, Ashrar Shreesh were present. Ashok, district president of Karavali Youth club and members were also present on the occasion.
Former MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake met the protesters. Explaining the issue to Vinay Kumar Sorake, Dr P V Bhandary said, "Ajjarkad government hospital has become a den of poor administration. Government has to immediately pay attention towards it. Beds and personnel are not available during this time of coronavirus pandemic. One by one, the departments are closed due to no facility to run the same. Poor people are getting affected because of this."
Responding to the grievances of protesters, Vinay said, "This is a golden opportunity to upgrade hospital. We will also demand for the same. We are with you."
