Mangaluru, Sep 27: A woman was found murdered at her home in Belleri near Hu Hakuva Kallu of Balepuni village in the taluk of Bantwal. It is suspected that the murderers, who went to the house of the home alone woman with the intention of stealing, must have raped and killed the woman.
A case in this connection is registered in Konaje police station.
Kusuma (55), a resident of Balepuni Belleri is the unfortunate woman who lost her life in this gruesome murder case. She was unmarried and lived alone in the house.
Kusuma was the youngest daughter of Belleri Govinda Purusha. She was BEd graduate and was living from the income she used to get from the farm land that she got as her share of ancestral property. She never used to come outside her house.
Kusuma's siblings are married and live elsewhere. It is said that deceased Kusuma was not mingling much with the other members of the family. For the same reason, the murder came to light a day after it was committed.
When brother called Kusuma over mobile, she did not pick the phone. When Kusuma's brother informed the matter to the tenants living in the old house of Kusuma, they went to the house, along with the woman, who used to work in Kusuma's house and saw her lying dead.
The body of Kusuma was found with clothes half burnt near the gas stove of the house. There was rice that was washed and kept near the gas stove. Curtain of windows and something on the floor is found to be burnt. Most importantly, the clothes in the cupboard on the upstairs of the house were strewn all over the place.
There is a suspicion that those who came to steal things from the house might have killed the woman in the process. As the clothes on the body of deceased Kusuma are found to be removed, it is also suspected that she might have been raped before killing.
Konaje police are investigating further.
