Udupi, Apr 8: World Health Day was celebrated by the district unit of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), along with NSS and youth Red Cross units of the Milagres College, Kallianpur, at the silver jubilee hall of the College on Wednesday April 7.
Milagres College principal, Fr Fred Mascarenhas, presided over the programme.
Dr Sharath, deputy chairman of the district IRCS, welcomed the gathering and explained the importance of the World Health Day.
Dr Ashwini Kumar of Manipal University inaugurated the programme and explained the objectives of the World Health Day as given by World Health Organization (WHO). ‘1000 cities 1000 stories’ is this year’s theme’, he said, adding that due to the stress and working environment, more and more urban people face health problems like obesity, diabetes etc. He also explained the ill-affects of global warming on health of the people.
The NSS scheme officer proposed vote of thanks. Professor Vittal Nayak compered the programme.
