Mangalore, Apr 5: A team led by Mangalore Tahsildar, Ravichandra Nayak, raided several places in and around Yekkur village near Bajpe on Saturday April 3 and registered cases against 11 persons for illegal mining, in Bajpe police station.

The raids were conducted, based on complaints received by the tahsildar. Acting on a complaint filed by the tahsildar, Bajpe station house officer, Pramod, and other personnel, raided laterite mining quarries in Yekkar, Permude, Machchoor, Tenka Yedapadavu, Mooduperara etc., and found several of them to be illegal

Cases pertaining to the violation of various sections of law including those against damaging public property, violation of the Revenue Act etc., have been registered. The tahsildar had filed a report with the policemen two weeks ago, against Eswhar, Krishna and Gangadhar, after finding three laterite stone quarries being run by them to be illegal.

It is expected that more raids on these lines will be conducted soon. Reportedly, several dozens of illegal mines operate in Bajpe area, while only a couple of them have regular permission to conduct this activity. There are allegations that political rivalry between the BJP and the Congress has played a role in filing complaints against each other for illegal mining.

    Hi,
    We are facing the same problem of illegal mining and holliganism and this is in Bajpe region too. We have our vacation home in permude, kannikatta road and these hooligans (Mona i suppose) have dug up the whole place. All 3 sides ouside our boundary wall has been dug up. But this was not the only problem. On Dec 2010 they barged in with bull dozers and brought down our compound wall built a temporary compund wall (approx 5 meters breadth and 100 meters length) inside our property cutting down all the trees on its way and built a mud road for the trucks to pass by to reach the stone query and a soda factory previously not acessible by road. We registered our case with Bajpe Police but i doubt their role since they did not take any action in this matter. We even sought a stay order from the court to stop the use of that illegal road which was put to use by those people but the police bluntly refused to take action instead asked my dad to go back to Mumbai and let them do their work. I'm currently in New york for an assignment so from my part i wrote to all the concerned department, Karnataka police, DK police but no replies. Not sure what to do with such people and lately i came to know that they have nexus with the police , BJP as well as the Congress party. Does it mean Common man has to suffer?
    We primarily stay in Thane and my Dad is retired but he has to make constant visits to Bajpe to look at the situation.

    Any help/advise in this matter would be grateful.
