Sania must not be Allowed to Play for India: Muthalik

Bangalore, Apr 2 (PTI): Slamming ace tennis player Sania Mirza for her decision to tie the knot with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, right wing outfit Sri Rama Sene today said she should not be allowed to play for India after her marriage.

"Once she ties the knot, Sania should not be allowed to play for India. Her decision is an insult to Indians," Sene chief Pramod Muthalik told reporters here.

"Could Sania not find any eligible bachelor among 100 crore Indians, which includes 15 crore Muslims? It is India which is responsible for her fame and by choosing a Pakistani cricketer as her life partner, she is insulting all Indians. We totally oppose the move", he said.

      These self proclaimed leaders who question Sania's allegiance to India on the basis of who she is marrying are just cheap publicity seekers. Sania has taken Indian woman's tennis to the world stage - no small task. Can the Ram Sena or Shiv Sena leaders make a claim of doing the country proud? The country must stand behind this icon, thank her and wish her the best, no matter who she wishes to marry.
      What befuddles me is why even the Indian Muslim community has generally taken an anti Sania stance. She has the done her country and community proud and has remained a picture of poise and dignity at a very young age, while the old, wizened leaders and their cronies croak malice and hate!! Kudos, Sania, you are more Indian than they are.

      The decision to marry her sweetheart is Sania's prerogative. She has played for india until now and there should not be any eason why she should not continue to play for inida. There are so many instances where players are married internationally or after procuring fame settled abroad. Does that make them less indian? Sanatana dharma does not profess this. if you are a true indian you should not think of a person as a member of any religion. the mutual decision to marry a person who you like and are liked by is personal and granted by the constitution. just stop this business of the idle and get on to real issues.
