New Delhi, April 1 (IANS) Dinesh Karthik said it was tips from his Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir that helped him come up with a match-winning knock of 69 against Rajasthan Royals here Wednesday.
"It was new track, so Gautam asked me to delay the shots. It helped me adjust to the slow nature of the track and score runs," said Karthik.
Daredevils were reeling at 67 for four and it was the 79-run partnership between Gambhir (43) and Karthik that helped them to get to a total of 188 for six in 20 overs.
"We lost too many wickets in the Power Play. But Gautam told me that if we can hang around, the runs would flow in and that's what happened," he said.
Asked why he went in even when Kedar Jadhav stepped in after the fall of fourth wicket, Karthik said: "I was supposed to go in at No.5 followed by Jadhav. But Jadhav went in by instinct as he went in at No.5 in the last match. When I went in a few second later, the umpire asked me to go back because Jadhav was already in."
Rajasthan Royals' assistant coach Jeremy Snape said: "Delhi played intelligent cricket on a slow track. We made an excellent start but Karthik took away the match from us."
