Bangalore Boy Vinay Kumar Finds Place in India's T20 WC Team

Mumbai, March 26 (IANS) Bangalore pacer Ranganath Vinay Kumar was the lone new face in the 15-member squad announced by the cricket selectors Friday for the Twenty20 World Cup.

Chief selector K. Srikkanth and his colleagues decided to go ahead with Gautam Gambhir and Ashish Nehra, who were injured while playing for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ishant Sharma and Virat Kohli failed to find a place in the team.

Vinay Kumar was finally rewarded for his consistent performance in the domestic circuit, especially with Bangalore Royal Challengers. Vinay Kumar is the joint second highest wicket-taker in the IPL with eight scalps.

Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla also found a place while selectors preferred the experience of Rohit Sharma to strengthen the middle order.

Team: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain), Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, R. Vinay Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma and Piyush Chawla

    Congrats to Vinay kumar & all the best to T20 team. Omission like Uttapa/M. pandey is a surprise looking their present form. These guys will be Good ion in place of few prominent out of form

    Congrats Vinay..But overall a very poor selection full of out of form and injured players...Instead of giving chance to young and fearless players like Manish Pandey, Uthappa, Tiwari, Irfan Pathan, they selected players lacking confidence like Dinesh Karthik, Piyush Chawla, Ravindra Jadeja etc Will be a great achievement if we qualify for 2nd round..Even if one batsman is injured, im sure Srikanth would either Badrinath and M Vijay as replacements..

    Congrats to Vinay and good luck. Very sad to hear the omission of Robin Uttappa inpite of his fantastic performance in IPL T20 match. There is more than performacne to get ion to the team as more than 4 players who has been ed are either failed in fitness or out of form.

    Congrats Vinay.....If you see current IPL, the ors should have given chance to class master blaster...Sachin Tendulkar.dynamics like Manish Pandey, Robin Utappa, Virat Kohli...instead of Yuvraj, Rohit Sharma, Harbajan....ANYWAYS ALL THE BEST TO ALL THE PLAYERS and bring HOME WORLD CUP

    Congrats Vinay kumar...but i doubt they will give u a chance play in final eleven...i think harbhajan is waste fellow in the team... come on guys give a chance to manish pandey.... what do u want from him a double century in 20:20....?

    Congrats Vinay Kumar. Players chosen by the Committee is very very bad. Surprised to note that Chairman Srikkant neglected Uttaappa, Manish Pandey and Sourab Tiwari. Team is full of players like Half fit Yuvraj,Gambhir,Nehra and out of form Rohit Sharma and average player Karthik. It is extremely difficult to reach Semi-Finals in World Cup with these kind of players.

    Vinay has took 62 Wickets in last domestic season.This Team is based on domestic performance & not from IPL3.Also 30 probables announced before the IPl start. Uthappa's record was poor in last domestic season. Sorry for manish pandey. Best of luck Vinay & Indian Team. Jai ho

    Heart burning for Pandey,Kohli.
    One must say that Rohit Sharma is very lucky to be in the team. Someone like Pandey would have been very handy for big hitting and quick scores. Kohli too is quite useful but his batting has been not as solid as Rohit Sharma. Rohit got the edge probably due to his slow spinners which is a plus along with his batting. Pacer Vinay surely deserved his ion. Likewise, there are so many other youngsters who missed the bus. This is a good sign that we have a great crop of back up players and we can easily pick another team which can be as good as the one ed for the T20 World Cup.
    Mind you, talent is not the only criteria for ion - you also need a GODFATHER to prompt your case inside !

    MANISH PANDEY Should have given a Chance Instead of DINESH KARTHIK. I find Dinesh Is weak compared to MANISH PANDEY....T20 tEAM Should be DYNAMIC Including ROBIN UTHAPPA, VIRAT KOHLI...... Will our YOUGSTERS Get Chance - Who Are Consistently Playing Good.

    The selrcion is as usual they have neglected the Karnatak playres except R Vinay Kumar. Virat Kohli is a great batsmen and also a good fielder. THe selction committee chairman is some how not liking our Karnataka players.

    Current form of the players should be the criteria forselection, in this case BCCI picked many injured/unfit players (Gambhir, Yuvraj,Nehra) also they are out of form, Nehra yet to play a match in this IPL3 then what is the use of picking these players, surely BCCI prefers Stardom not talent why they didn't Pandey, Uthappa, Tiwari,Irfan Pathan in place of injured players. Anyway congrats to Vinay Kumar and all the best to Indian Team Jai Hind..

    Very bad selection only virender sehwag,raina are fit at the moment, rest all batsman are suffering either with injuries or bad form. Surprised why uttappa and kohli not ed?. All news channels talked about bangalore dashing batsman manish pandey he also not considered.Are they(selectors) blind?
