Mangaluru, Aug 27: The charges against the then Beltangady police circle inspector Y Gangi Reddy were proved at the court on Thursday August 27.
It may be recalled, the then Lokayukta DySP Sadananda Varnekar and team had conducted raids, registered a case and seized several documents of the then Beltangady police circle inspector, Gangi Reddy on August 27, 2009, alleging that Gangi Reddy has amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. Property worth more than Rs 19 lac was reportedly found. DySP M Vittal Das Pai had completed the investigation and submitted a charge sheet against Gangi Reddy.
As many as 22 witnesses were examined on behalf of the prosecution.
Mangaluru special court who heard the arguments by the special public prosecutor K S N Rajesh, concluded in a 111-page judgement that the allegations are proved under anti-corruption Act 13(1)E.
Delivering the verdict, the the third district and session court and Lokayukta special court judge B B Jakati sentenced Gangi Reddy to four years of imprisonment and to pay Rs five lac fine. Failure to pay the fine will attract another year’s imprisonment. Gangi Reddy is in judicial custody at present.
Special government public prosecutor, advocate K S N Rajesh argued for the prosecution.
