Mangaluru, Aug 21: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Friday August 21 recorded 202 fresh cases and five deaths. As many as 278 new cases were reported in Udupi along with two deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 9,914 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,420 are currently active. As many as 7,193 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 64 on Friday which includes two from Covid care centres, 50 from home isolation and 12 from hospitals. A total of 301 deaths have occurred so far, including five on Friday.
Among the 202 new cases, 81 have influenza-like illness (ILI), nine have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 41 are primary contacts, and 69 are under investigation.
Out of the 202 cases, as many as 139 are from Mangaluru, 35 from Bantwal, 11 from Puttur, three from Sullia, four from Beltangady, and 10 are from outside DK district. As many as 91 of the cases are symptomatic while 111 are asymptomatic.
All patients who died on Friday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported one death, two deaths were from Bantwal and one each were from Puttur and outside the district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,996 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 86 fresh admissions on Friday, while a total of 3,665 people are in home isolation, including 192 new on Friday.
As many as 6,857 people, including 365 on Friday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 4,799 from hospital isolation wards, and 2,058 from home isolation.
A total of 62,767 samples have been collected so far, including 1,516 on Friday, out of which 679 are COVID suspects and 188 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 52,082 have turned out to be negative, including 1,314 on Friday, and 1,017 reports are awaited.
As many as 9,668 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 278 on Friday, and 2,729 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 82 deaths have occurred so far including two on Friday – a 61-year-old male from Kundapur and an 80-year-old male from Udupi. Both the patients had comorbidities.
Among the 278 new cases, 159 are in Udupi, 99 in Kundapur, 14 in Karkala, and six from outside the district. Among them, 114 acquired the virus through contacts, 68 have ILI, six has SARI and 89 are under investigation. One has domestic travelling history.
