Udupi: District Congress stages protest against amendments to Land Reforms, APMC Acts

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Aug 20: Udupi District Congress Committee staged a protest in front of tahsildar office, Bannanje here on Thursday, August 20, condemning the amendments to Karnataka Land Reforms Act and Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that, “Coronavirus is a boon for BJP to indulge in corruption. During the period of Devaraj Urs, he provided land for real land owners. But now, the BJP government is trying to take away lands from the cultivator of the land by amending Land Reform Act. It is implementing amendments through various orders which is against democracy.

“Instead of thinking about protecting labourers, BJP government is planning to make money. BJP is also involved in corruption in purchasing medical equipment.

“Former chief minister Siddaramaiah urged the government to provide report on expenditure involved in purchasing medical equipment. But the government did not give any clarification. There is heavy corruption in purchase of medical equipment. This case should be handed over for judicial investigation to have fair and transparent probe,” he said.

Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, district president, District Congress Committee said, “Karnataka government has released Rs 4,167 crores from eight different departments. BJP’s planning and Acts are made for the rich class. Amendments should be made after taking public opinion and should not be a single-sided decision. Cultivator of the land is the owner of the land. But the BJP led government is going to make huge changes in the Act, which is not right and against the interests of the public.”

U R Sabhapati, M A Gafoor, Dinesh Putran, Deviprasad Shetty, Harish Kini, Vishwas Amin, Bhaskar Rao Kediyur, Bhujanga Shetty, Prakhyath Shetty, Shabbir Ahmad, Geetha Vagle, Annayya Sherigar, Kirthi Shetty, Veronica Cornelio, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Roshini Olivera, Ramadevi, Nithyananda Shetty, Shashidhar Shetty Yellur Sakaram, Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, Mahabala Kundar, Krishnamurthy Acharya, Ismail Athrady, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Yatish Karkera, Ramesh Kanchan, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Ramathulla,, Harish Shetty Pangala, Prabhakar Acharya, Ganeshraj Saralebettu and others were present.

Good to see principal opposition party is protesting...…..
we need a strong opposition to counter certain ill actions of ruling party from enacting it.
I am basically a BJP supporter few years ago...…...after seeing the nautanki, divinding nation using sama/dhana/bheda/dhanda by my beloved BJP...…..I moved out.

I will now support all parties without any bias....also vote for the party based on manifesto that uplifts all bharatiyas- Hindu, christian, muslim and other faiths. Unfortunately congress today does not have strong head at the central level, Rahul is a good man...but cannot be a mass leader like Modi, Priyanka can be groomed she can be a counter balance to BJP and anti people policies...…..one of the ugliest things of my BJP is using religion and antinational groups- VHP,BD,RSS. and causing harm to other faiths without any shame nor fear of committing dhushkarma……. Its shame, we educated Hindus with open mind and heart understand this however those who are following blindly .

Only our youth now need to act in a bipartisan way.....as good nationals without bringing in religion and bad polity.

Why the protest ????? The land mafia was anyway operating in the villages of Kallianpur, Moodbettu etc buying and selling land from poor illiterate farmers at throw away prices and selling for exorbitant prices to investors. With this amendment at least the poor farmer will get a fair price for their land . Anyway no cultivation is going on in these areas .
