Mangaluru, Aug 17: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Monday August 17 recorded 144 new cases and eight deaths. As many as 270 fresh cases were reported in Udupi along with one death.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 9,022 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,091 are currently active. As many as 6,654 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 209 on Monday which includes 13 from Covid care centres, 96 from home isolation and 100 from hospitals. A total of 277 deaths have occurred so far, including eight on Monday.
Among the 144 new cases, 60 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 16 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 21 are primary contacts, and 47 are under investigation.
Out of the 144 cases, as many as 88 are from Mangaluru, 18 from Bantwal, 8 from Puttur, one from Sullia, 10 from Beltangady and 19 are from outside DK district. As many as 77 of the cases are symptomatic while 67 are asymptomatic.
All patients who died on Monday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, Bantwal and Puttur reported one death each, and three deaths were from outside the district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,559 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 60 fresh admissions on Monday, while a total of 2,679 people are in home isolation, including 210 new on Monday.
As many as 5,630 people, including 269 on Monday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 4,123 from hospital isolation wards, and 1,507 from home isolation.
A total of 55,739 samples have been collected so far, including 376 on Monday, out of which 290 are COVID suspects and 61 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 46,624 have turned out to be negative, including 520 on Monday, and 870 reports are awaited.
As many as 8,245 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 270 on Monday, and 2,537 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 78 deaths have occurred so far including one on Monday which was of a 56-year-old female from Karkala who was suffering from severe Covid-19 with acute respiratory distress syndrome, hypothyroidism, subcutaneous emphysema and hypertension.
Among the 270 new cases, 107 are in Udupi, 141 in Kundapur, 15 in Karkala, and seven from outside the district. Among them, 114 acquired the virus through contacts, 62 have ILI, 10 has SARI and 83 are under investigation. One has domestic travelling history.
