Mangaluru, Aug 15: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Saturday August 15 recorded 271 new cases and six deaths. As many as 241 fresh cases were reported in Udupi along with two deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,649 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 2,070 are currently active. As many as 6,317 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 202 on Saturday which includes seven from Covid care centres, 147 from home isolation and 48 from hospitals. A total of 262 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Saturday.
Among the 271 new cases, 128 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 10 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 39 are primary contacts, and 90 are under investigation. Four have domestic travelling history.
Out of the 271 cases, as many as 177 are from Mangaluru, 47 from Bantwal, 23 from Puttur, one from Sullia, 14 from Beltangady and nine are from outside DK district. As many as 152 of the cases are symptomatic while 119 are asymptomatic.
All patients who died on Saturday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported four deaths, two deaths were from outside the district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,378 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 186 fresh admissions on Saturday, while a total of 2,353 people are in home isolation, including 55 new on Saturday.
As many as 5,101 people, including 229 on Saturday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 3,932 from hospital isolation wards, and 1,169 from home isolation.
A total of 54,794 samples have been collected so far, including 1,632 on Saturday, out of which 1,035 are COVID suspects and 296 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 45,581 have turned out to be negative, including 1,556 on Saturday, and 1,475 reports are awaited.
As many as 7,738 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 241 on Saturday, and 2,560 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 77 deaths have occurred so far including two on Saturday.
The two deaths on Saturday include a male from Udupi aged 65 who was suffering from severe Covid -19 with, acute respiratory distress syndrome, hypertension, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a 43-year-old male from Udupi who was suffering from severe Covid -19 with acute respiratory distress syndrome, and diabetes mellitus Type-2.
Among the 241 new cases, 138 are in Udupi, 70 in Kundapur, 30 in Karkala, and three from outside the district. Among them, 130 acquired the virus through contacts, 40 have ILI and 71 are under investigation.
