Bengaluru, Aug 14: Disturbances and riots were witnessed on Tuesday night at DJ Halli, KG Halli and Kaval Byrasandra limits in the city, after people belonging to a religion, who were infuriated by a sacrilegious post about Prophet made in Facebook by a person named Naveen. The said post was made in the Facebook account of Naveen, nephew of Congress MLA representing Pulikeshi Nagar constituency Akhanda Srinivas Murthy.
The crowd not only menacingly threatened the MLA and his family, but also burnt down the front portion of his house. The DJ Halli police station was vandalised. The rioters numbered about 2,000 to 3,000 damaged property and burnt down vehicles. In the police firing which followed, three died. Over 200 have so far been arrested by the police and probe is continuing.
Naveen
Initially it was said that Naveen said his mobile was lost and his Facebook account was hacked. However, it is learnt that during the interrogation by a special team from the city east division, Naveen confessed to have made the post himself. It is learnt that he said he never expected the post to get such a wild response. He also said that he himself had deleted that post later.
It is said that Naveen's mobile phone has not yet been found. The police accessed Naveen's Facebook account through Naveen's password on a laptop. Investigation is continuing.
