Mangaluru, Aug 13: Local MLA D Vedavyasa Kamath, has been making efforts to make sure that a plasma therapy centre is set up in the city in view of the fact that coronavirus infection has been spreading fast in Dakshina Kannada district in general and Mangaluru in particular.
"It has been established that plasma therapy has emerged as an effective measure of treating coronavirus infection. In several parts of the state, plasma therapy has been used, medical research has been conducted successfully. Therefore, I will discuss with the ministers concerned, submit proposals and ensure that plasma centres are opened here at the earliest," he stated.
"Plasma is collected from the body of a person who has recovered from coronavirus infection, as his resistance against disease improves at that time. The system of collecting the plasma and using it to treat others should begin in the city fast. Studies have found that plasma collected from a person can be used to treat up to five persons. It can, therefore, play a major role in treating the infected persons," Kamath feels.
Kamath said that he has already discussed the matter with the deputy commissioner and other officials and also brought it to the minister's notice.
