Udupi, Aug 12: The country’s health infrastructure was tested amid the pandemic. Several districts and cities in the country found themselves in dire situations when it came to serving the patients’ needs. Several hospitals lacked sufficient rooms, beds, ventilators and other medical amenities to serve the corona patients. With the rise in coronavirus cases, district administrations have taken necessary measures to provide effective healthcare to all patients.

In view of this, Karnataka minister of home affairs and Udupi district in-charge minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the district hospital will be upgraded with 300 beds soon.

He was speaking after handing over ventilators to the district administration at the Country Hotel auditorium on Wednesday. “The funds from the finance department will be released soon for the upgrade. The government has handed over 10 ventilators donated by 20 donors. They will serve the patients in need immensely," he said.

“MLA Raghupathi Bhat has distributed food to the people for more than 100 days during the lockdown. He has also obtained ventilators through donations,” Bommai added.

“The ventilators will be used in the cooperation of government and private hospitals," the minister stated.

He congratulated Dr G Shankar, Abharana Jewellers, Robosoft Technologies and H N Shetty of Heggunje Rajiv Shetty Charitable Society for having donated the ventilators.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, Coastal Development Authority president Mattaru Rathnakar Hegde, Udupi Urban Development Authority president Raghavendra Kini, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, DSP Vishnuvardhan and others were present.
