Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 9: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday August 9 recorded 132 new cases and six deaths, while Udupi witnessed another steep spike with 282 cases.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 7,207 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 3,305 are currently active. As many as 3,682 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 195 on Sunday. A total of 220 deaths have occured so far, including six on Sunday.
Among the 132 new cases, 68 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 11 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 21 are primary contacts, and 32 are under investigation.
Out of the 132 cases, as many as 81 are from Mangaluru, 22 from Bantwal, 4 from Beltangady, 6 from Puttur, 3 from Sullia and 16 are from outside DK district. With this, the total number of cases in Mangaluru has risen to 5,023, Moodbidri 98, Mulky 91, Bantwal 689, Beltangady 370, Puttur 351, Kadaba 55, and Sullia 93. As many as 437 cases so far are from outside DK district.
All the six patients who died on Sunday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru and Bantwal reported two deaths each, Sullia reported one, and another death was of a person from outside the district.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,489 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 173 fresh admissions on Sunday, while a total of 1,705 people are in home isolation, including 109 new on Sunday.
As many as 3,444 people, including 97 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 3,031 from hospital isolation wards, and 413 from home isolation.
A total of 44,824 samples have been collected so far, including 1,383 on Sunday, out of which 929 are COVID suspects and 175 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 37,325 have turned out to be negative, including 1,343 on Sunday, and 1,298 reports are awaited.
As many as 6,201 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 282 on Sunday, and 2,697 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 60 deaths have occured so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the 282 new cases, 152 are in Udupi, 86 in Kundapur, 43 in Karkala, and one from outside the district. Among them, 132 acquired the virus through contacts, 69 have ILI, six have been diagnosed with SARI, and 66 are under investigation. Six of them have domestic travel history, while three have international travel history.
