Bengaluru, Aug 8: Karnataka is waiting for a GST compensation amount of Rs 13,763 crore from the centre for the period between April and July. It has been decided to take up the issue at the GST council meeting as the state is badly in need of funds.
This decision was taken at the 14th meeting of IT Group of Ministers to discuss the issue of GST implementation. Home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that there was pressure at the meeting to refund tax amount refundable to the taxpayers online without delay and without giving any reasons to the concerned. So far, Rs 52,251 crore tax amount was refunded to two lac businessmen falling under small and medium enterprises. He said that the scheme of providing documents about zero tax in case of small and micro businessmen through SMS messages should be given more publicity.
The meeting felt that monthly tax documents should be simplified and a detailed scheme should be drawn towards this end.
It was decided to fix a date that is convenient for small and medium enterprises to pay monthly taxes. More importance was decided to be given to solve problems faced by taxpayers through helplines and chat boxes. In case of tax evasion, such cases should be immediately identified and software should be implemented towards increasing tax collection.
