Mangaluru, Aug 8: Sea water entered the reverse osmosis-based desalination plant being built at Tannirbavi by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd on Friday August 7. The protective wall built to provide protection to the plant is also facing peril. Therefore, over 15 residents from the area were shifted to Kulur school.
On Friday, there was high tide at sea as a result of which water began to gush into the said unit. The officials immediately began to extend support to the protective wall by laying tetrapod stones around the wall and also near the unit.
MLA Dr Bharath Shetty Y, and tahsildar Guruprasad, visited the spot and inspected the measures undertaken to handle the situation. Former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, visited the spot and urged the officials to take measures to protect the interests of the locals.
