Mangaluru: Sea water seeps into reverse osmosis plant under construction

Mangaluru, Aug 8: Sea water entered the reverse osmosis-based desalination plant being built at Tannirbavi by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd on Friday August 7. The protective wall built to provide protection to the plant is also facing peril. Therefore, over 15 residents from the area were shifted to Kulur school.

On Friday, there was high tide at sea as a result of which water began to gush into the said unit. The officials immediately began to extend support to the protective wall by laying tetrapod stones around the wall and also near the unit.

MLA Dr Bharath Shetty Y, and tahsildar Guruprasad, visited the spot and inspected the measures undertaken to handle the situation. Former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, visited the spot and urged the officials to take measures to protect the interests of the locals.

    Is there any project that has completed without issues and delays or drawbacks or shortcomings. Planning at its worst.

    Do we have value for human life or not?
    One of the experts had warned that the Kozhikode runway was dangerous as it had only 90 meter buffer zone at the end of the runway instead of 240 meters and 75 meters on the sides instead of 100 meters which is mandatory. However DGCA ignored and approved the runway. Playing with lives of innocent people. Now that there is an accident and DGCA will try to wash its hands off by blaming the pilots. Simple. Case closed.

    its good to know plant is under construction , upon completing they will use sea water for their production purposes
    hope then mangalore will have enough water during summer and people are happy

    A point has to be noted that this petrochemical plant disbursing the unwanted gas chemicals in the open air without treating and spoiling the clean fresh air as also the environment. Hope the concerned officials are aware and taking a fitting action.
