Udupi, Jul 29: “People are not permitted to take the law into their hands in cases of illegal transport of cattle violating government guidelines during Bakrid festival. The nearest police station should be informed or telephoned to 100 instead,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha. He was speaking in a meeting on illegal transport of cattle and the prevention of illegal slaughter of cattle during the Bakrid festival.
“Those who want to transport cattle should obtain permission from the local administration and police station in their jurisdiction. The police department should identify the nearest goshala to send the cattle confiscated during their illegal transport,” he said.
“All the tahsildars should conduct peace meetings if necessary and ensure that the celebrations are held peacefully,” he said.
DSP Vishnuvardhan said that inspection spots are arranged in the district both at night and day. “Special inspection team will oversee them on a sub-division level. Previous criminals are called to the police station and warned. All the officials are directed to hold peace meets on police station levels. Necessary precautions should be taken in gram panchayat limits,” he said.
