Udupi, Jul 25: Karnataka Rashtra Samiti members in Udupi staged a protest against the corruption of the state government in the procurement of essential medical equipment on Saturday, July 25, at Ajjarkad here.

Amrith Shenoy, State vice president of KRS said, "The government had spent Rs 5000 crore in purchasing medical equipment like PPE kits, masks, sanitisers, ventilators oxygen cylinders and so on." Shenoy alleged that there is a huge scam involved in it which the people of Karnataka are aware of. "How could it be possible that doctors were getting Covid even after wearing PPE kits. That shows the quality of the materials purchased," he alleged.

He further said that such a huge scam should not be tolerated and demanded that the audit should be done in a transparent manner. "If there is no corruption, let speaker Kageri allow to conduct an investigation on it. But they are stopped from continuing to work. Let the government allow a probe. Let them prove that they are honest. If they do not allow the probe would show that they have wronged," he said.

Shenoy alleged that the government has paid triple the price than the actual market price and the PPE kits distributed to the hospitals were of low quality. "It is very clear that the government is looting public money. If they failed to prove it the speaker should give resignation," he said.

Vinutha Kiran, media coordinator, Shahid Ali, district vice President of KRS and others were present.
