Bengaluru, Jul 21: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, D K Shivakumar, has warned of launching an agitation against the government's decision to provide beds used for the treatment of coronavirus-infected patients to hostel students.

He spoke to the media on Monday July 20 after holding a meeting with senior leaders of the party on the issue of the state's failure to handle COVID infection, corruption in acquiring equipment relating to the pandemic, and other issues.

"The government has been acquiring thousands of beds for the treatment of coronavirus-infected patients. After these beds are used by the infected people, the officials have suggested to reuse them by providing these beds to government hostels. The government has agreed to this suggestion, and our party will agitate against this move," he clarified.

In the matter of clarification provided by the health minister, Sriramulu, that no irregularities have occurred in the purchase of equipment for handling the corona situation, Shivakumar said that his party has documents to prove the charges. He said that he has documentary evidence for every allegation made against the government and added that he will place them before the people soon.

"We will shortly launch Arogya Abhaya Hasta scheme under which Congress will fan off teams with three members each to every gram panchayat. The members of the teams will be equipped with thermal scanners, pulse oximeters and sanitizers. The teams will measure the body temperatures of the people and oxygen levels. Those in need will be extended assistance," he stated.
