Udupi, Mar 4: The miscreants attacked the office of Kannada daily, Kannada Prabha near Gitanjali Theatre here on Wednesday March 3 injuring a constable who was on duty. However, there was no damage to the office.
Two bike-borne assailants hurled a kerosene bomb at the shutter of the closed office, injuring Mahesh Mandarti, who was on duty along with Raviraj Kottara, another constable. The assailants allegedly also threatened the constables to flee from the scene or else face dire consequences before the attack.
A case has been registered. Four armed DAR are now providing security to the office, police sources said.
Journalists’ Association and Other Organizations Condemns the Act
The Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association (UDWJA) on Wednesday condemned the attacks on the offices of the Kannada daily, Kannada Prabha in Mangalore and Udupi and eveninger Jaya Kirana in Mangalore. A press release from the association has urged the arrest of the persons behind the incidents at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) and district unit of Komu Sauharda Vedike too have condemned the attack and the violence in the state following the appearance of the article in the newspaper.
