Udupi: District hospital awaits COVID test report, untreated diabetic patient dies

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 17: The brother of a deceased man poured out his grief to Daijiworld, at losing his brother on account of the callousness of the distinct hospital staff.

He explained that his brother from Perampalli had visited a private hospital here for treating diabetes. The hospital staff asked him to get himself tested for coronavirus infection at the district hospital at Ajjarkad. The doctors at the district hospital reportedly refused him admission, saying that there were no beds.

The brother of the patient contacted Udupi MLA seeking help. The MLA called the hospital authorities and asked them to arrange for bed. Thereafter, the staff admitted the patient into the hospital. The doctors preferred to wait for the result of the COVID test without treating diabetes and phlegm problems. Even after the concerned repeatedly pleaded with the doctors, the district hospital doctors did not arrange for either treatment or ventilator for the suffering patient.

Frustrated, the patient's brother again got in contact with the MLA. The MLA then arranged for bed at Dr TMA Pai Hospital. The hospital authorities tried their best to treat the patient even when keeping the treatment for COVID going. But because there was inordinate delay, the patient suffered a heart attack and breathed his last, the man explained.

Looks like most of the deaths declared as Corona infection deaths are either due to Medical negligence or other associated illness already existed but not treated on time these days!

This is the reason people are afraid of disclosing their health issues, otherwise so called corona team will come and take you to hospital and they will never treat you until they get report and by the time you will die. If anyone has any problem breathing etc, just ask your family doctor to give medicine for your sickness and treat better at home with self isolation rather than disclosing it. Innsha Allah may Allah help everyone.

Bronchodilators tablets(as you mentioned Asthalin),syrups and pumps &, paracetamol should be made freely available without prescription,so that this systematic loot by testing, tracing and hospitalization stops.Earlier the phrase was "cura te ipsum" or "Physician, heal thyself" now the new phrase would be "Patient heal thyself".
