The need for an electric crematorium is felt in Surathkal area which falls under Mangaluru (north) assembly constituency. City mayor Divakar Pandeshwar, has put up a proposal for setting up of one such crematorium at Surathkal. He had suggested that this project can be undertaken under the Smart City Project and that it will meet the crying need for such a facility in Surathkal.
This proposal is being considered by both the district administration and Smart City project officials. The officials propose to move this proposal in the next meeting and depending on the outcome of discussions, further action will be taken.
In the past, the district administration had proposed to perform the cremation of the deceased at Surathkal but the locals had vehemently opposed the proposal.
