Udupi, Jul 16: A total of 14 persons including hospital doctors, patients and staff have been infected with coronavirus. Thanks to a patient who was admitted for gangrene treatment at the district government hospital at Ajjarkad here.
The patient, who underwent surgery, suffered from fever thereafter. Tests confirmed that he was infected with COVID-19. In the meanwhile, a total of nine patients being treated in the same ward were also found to have been infected. He also had passed on infection to two doctors, a nurse, housekeeping staff and the cook.

One of the infected doctors stands admitted into the COVID hospital. Those who had come in contact with the said patient have now been home quarantined. The ward where the infected patient was kept, and the operation theatre where the surgery was performed, have been sealed down. Arrangement to sanitise the entire hospital has been made.
The hospital will be opened for admissions only after two days. As of now, only emergency treatment would be available in the district hospital. Separate wards where suspected COVID patients have been kept alone are functional as of now. No new inpatients would be admitted, and outpatient services will not be available.
The hospital has a total of 90 inpatients. After two days, the hospital will be open to function as usual.
