Mangaluru, Jul 16: Local MLA and former minister U T Khader, has demanded a probe by a joint committee of both the houses of the legislature into the alleged irregularities indulged in by the state government in procuring masks and other equipment relating to COVID-19 management. He was speaking at a press meet here on Wednesday July 15.
He urged the government to seriously consider the allegations about irregularities which were committed in the procurement of safety equipment meant for controlling coronavirus spread. "There is a wide gap between the market rates of things bought by the government and their market price. I demand a detailed and impartial investigation into this aspect," he stated.
Khader felt that it is the duty of the private firms to extend help to their workers during the COVID-19 crisis. He asked the government to employ rural workers under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and also attend to the issues faced by ASHA workers.
Taluk panchayat member Abdul Jabbar, Sadashiva Ullal and others were present.
