‘Decision on lockdown in Udupi on Jul 14’ - DC Jagadeesha

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Jul 13: G Jagadeesha, deputy commissioner (DC) of the district gave a statement with regards to imposing the lockdown in the district.

The DC said, "A decision on lockdown in the district will be taken on Tuesday, July 14. Chief minister Yediyurappa has instructed to take people’s representatives into confidence and arrive at a decision. A meeting in this regard with the MLAs of Udupi district will take place on 10 am of July 14.

"Even if we are imposing lockdown, public will be intimated well in advance. We are thinking of sealing district borders if not imposing total lockdown. We will also alert public two days before closing the border so that those who want to go to other districts or come can do so.

"SSLC valuation will continue as usual even if there is lockdown. We will make all arrangements for the same,” he said.

Sealing the borders is more important than lockdown. If a lockdown is done, as per epidemiolgists, it has to be done for a duration of 6 weeks( duration of 3 incubation periods) to be effective. Atleast 3 weeks is minimum. Doing a one week lockdown is useless.
Now supposing a 6 week lockdown is indeed done, once we finish the lockdown period, if the districts surrounding us and places like Bangalore, Mumbai still have lot of cases, then when people travel from those areas, again we will have a spike. Then what, one more lockdown?

There are more important measures which are simple but for some pig headedness, people don't want to follow. They are
    1. Wear masksand wear it properly
    2. Social distancing
    3. Hand hygiene : Wash hands 1000 times a day, even with plain water.
    4. Avoid going out if you can.

This is all that is required. A little patience, a little self discipline, and a little concern for your fellow human beings is all that is required to do the above simple measures.
People feel lockdown is the answer to this COVID situation. If lockdown is enforced, no need of mask etc. That unfortunately is the impression that is being made out.
Lockdown alone, that too for one week is useless.

If you lock the border please inform well advance so that we are in other districts so it's easy to come to udupi. Sudden lock may highly risk.

    Great job Mr.DC.
We believe in you. You're doing a much better job than everyone else! Keep the borders sealed, Make everyone wear face masks.

I've noticed people maintaining social distance.

    Major point:

Ask all restaurants to wear gloves and masks at all times.
Ask them to take a health check up for contact tracing
Ask them to write on a book. If they don't have a mask, ask them to sell masks as well
Ask them to keep sanitizers in all wash rooms

I've been to quite a few places because of my work and I've seen negligence. They're taking caution, but not enough.

    Regards,
    Not a leftist/Not a Rightist,
    An Honest Realist,

Kerala has announced a fine of 5000 for people violating the lockdown. Every one violating the lockdown should be fined and locked inside the jail. The only reason why handling corona has failed is because rules are being bent for a section of people and also because of the policy failure of the govt. Atleast now if Udupi decides to lockdown and implement it faithfully, i am sure we will come out of this mess. If you want to show mercy, dont go for a lockdown. Come what may, 14 days lockdown. Thats all. In the middle of all this, where is shobha karandlaje by the way, I wonder ??

Instead on consulting MLA's please consult Health experts.

Also sealing district borders is a good step. If we would have enforced it once the lock down was opened we would not have reached the current situation. Allow only emergency and critical movement in borders.

Sealing district borders is waste.., district people has to suffer than other districts.. better they can strict lockdown for 18 hour daily basis for a week or 10 days and district administration has to go for random test without delay as more and more checkup has to do especially Corona virus attached area.
DC has to pressure government to open some mobile fever clinics in Udupi and in all public places this mobile clinics has to cover random tests.

Lockdown is not so necessarily in Udupi , because always lockdown cannot stop virus Infact it’s just a small part of controlling as well maintaining hygiene every where , sanitation and wearing mask also can control the same too.

Please do not issue entry pass other state passengers.
I believe, by this time most of them reached their native place.
So result is clear, corona will be under circulation for few days.
