Mangaluru City Corporation intensifies action against not wearing masks

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 3: Officials from Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Friday July 3, penalised people for not wearing masks in public places.

As per the decision taken to carry out an aggressive drive against people in public places without masks in order to contain the spread of coronavirus, the officials imposed fine of Rs 5,000 on 25 people 3.

In view of the increasing coronavirus cases in the city, rules have been tightened. A meeting headed by the city corporation commissioner had decided to affectively implement the rule relating to imposition of time to make people aware of their responsibilities. In tune with the decision, 25 persons without masks were stopped and Rs 5,000 at the rate of Rs 200 each was collected.

In one case, a youth was reluctant to pay fine for not wearing a mask. After the senior health inspector filed complaint in Kadri police station, the youth was summoned to the police station where the fine was collected.

The officials say that they are implementing the rules to make people aware of their risks and responsibilities and to alert them to the need to discharge their duties. In Mulky town panchayat limits too, about Rs 5,000 was collected from people without masks and those who were seen spitting in public places.

It may be recalled, a meeting was conducted under the leadership of city corporation commissioner, Shanadi Ajith Kumar Hegde, on Thursday, July 2. The meeting discussed the need for rigorous implementation of issuing a warning and imposing fines in case of people not wearing masks.

Shanadi had noted that the number of coronavirus positive cases is increasing within the city corporation limits and there is a need for the people to properly be aware of the guidelines and wear masks when in public spaces. He said, "We should make sure that everyone wears masks. Our aim is not to impose fine. But people will realise the seriousness of the rules when fine is imposed when they continue to ignore repeated warnings to wear masks.”

He said that apart from warning people coming out of their homes without masks, as per the government instructions, a fine of Rs 200 should be imposed. “When this is done, people will be alert, wear masks and follow rules without fail," he told the health department officials. He also wanted the people to be very careful in view of a steep rise in coronavirus cases and always see that the mask is in place even when speaking to others.

Shanadi advised aged people, young children and others not to venture out of their homes unnecessarily and judge the urgency and importance of the need before coming out. He further requested people to strictly follow this to join hands in the fight against the pandemic.

Penalising those not wearing masks is OK. But why MCC has not initiated house-to-house testing, which would have given a clearer picture of the extent of the pandemic? This would have helped in planning effective action. By the way I have seen MCC health inspectors roaming around without masks!

I guess 200 is a mere amount. People should be aware of the situation on their own. Inspite, if people donot understand it is good practice to impose heavy fines inorder to scare people

Crossing the limits is permitted by the special act of Pandemic imposed in our country!
No scientific study has ever been undertaken to prove masks prevent cross infections, it might reduce it by a small measure if the wearers sneeze or cough, but if they really have infection then it would pass through the pores of any masks when they exhale as the tiny particles are larger than the corona virus which has micron level of 100 only while pores are more than 4 times of that.
Virus load on masks can increase many times as people touch their masks & faces several times to adjust it when it slips, which can easily pass through the same masks according to a recent study.
One more aspect that has been noted is the masks make viruses & bacteria that are latent inside all human beings become more virulent & aggressive if the system doesn't receive constant load of healthy bacteria & viruses as the immune system gets its boost this way. If that process is prevented then any infection can become serious.
The claim of rise in infections is due to more tests rather than increase in infections & death rate has plummeted all over world as it is now 0.024% which is lower than flu infections every season & the present infection doesn't qualify to be called a Pandemic & all lock downs, seal downs can be dispensed with immediately.
As per new suggestion by our experts 80% asymptomatic people doesn't need hospital admission too. Only around 2 or 3 % need hospitalization at present.

You deserve a bravery award for speaking the factual truth. Kudos! But you cannot talk sense to "intellectuals" with herd mentality and except Sweden the entire world has bitten the garbage sold by some "modellers". Democracry and rights of a citizen have flown out of the window in most countries.

Nevertheless it is better to wear a mask than not to wear one even if it gives 5% protection.
Also, what about protecting the other entry point - the eyes?

Mangaloreans are not maintaining safe distance mostly in standalone shops. Even medical stores who must champion the cause of safe distance are also culpable. The Corporation must look into this and impose exemplary penalty on the erring
establishments and the general public as a deterrent.

Few transfer or suspension of higher officials will definitely make system correct.

In Wuhan, Chinese government fired its governor itself when he failed to manage the crisis..

In our country, everything is cool cool🤓

Better late than never. The MCC should have started penalising people in April. Even in offices people do not wear masks.
