Mangaluru, Jun 30: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, observed that with the increase in the number of coronavirus patients in the district, Wenlock Hospital's inpatient capacity for these patients might be breached shortly. He therefore advised the health department to prevail upon the private hospitals to set aside enough additional beds to accommodate coronavirus patients.
He was speaking at the COVID-19 progress review meeting held at the auditorium of the deputy commissioner's office here on Monday June 29.
He said that as per the guidelines of the government, services of retired MBBS or AYUSH medical officers can be utilised to treat coronavirus patients. He asked the officials to utilise services of private nursing college students if there is shortage of nursing staff. He also advised the concerned to hire additional ambulances from medical colleges if there is a need for them. He also asked district health officials to ensure that the private hospitals keep the district administration abreast of the conditions of corona patients being treated by them from time to time.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, and additional deputy commissioner M J Roopa, in addition to several other officials were present.
Case against unconnected persons at funeral
Nalin noted that during the funeral of the patients who die of corona infection, as per the government direction, only the connected staff wearing PPE Kits can participate. He advised the officials to make sure that unconnected persons are not allowed to be present there, and if they violate rules, cases should be registered against them.
