Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 28: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday June 28 saw its biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases, with as many as 97 cases reported in the district, and three more deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 40 new cases.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 47,190 people have been screened so far, including 166 on Sunday.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 13,294 samples have been sent for tests till date, out of which 12,141 have turned out negative, and 673 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. Out of these, 238 are currently active. As many as 422 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 13 deaths have occured so far, including three on Sunday alone.
As many as six patients, including one woman, were discharged from Wenlock on Sunday.
As many as 377 samples were sent for testing on Sunday. Reports of 178 samples were received on Sunday, out of which 97 tested positive and the rest negative. Reports of 480 samples are awaited.
Of the 97 who tested positive on Sunday, 32 are returnees from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Mumbai. Among the 97 new patients, 21 have been diagnosed with influenza-like illness (ILI), five with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) and 10 were primary contacts of earlier patients. Contact tracing process of 28 patients is on.
Three deaths were reported on Sunday. They include a 31-year-old man from Suratkal who was also suffering from hypothyroidism, asthma, obesity and severe pneumonia; a 48-year-old woman from Bantwal who had SARI and was admitted to a private hospital; and a 51-year-old woman from Jokatte who also had SARI.
A total of nine persons have been admitted for observation.
Altogether, 6,929 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. A total of 29 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) have been reported so far.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,897 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 7 on Sunday, and a total of 4,872 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 722 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 73 people are in isolation wards, including 8 fresh admissions on Sunday. Among them, three have SARI and five influenza-like illness.
As many as 1001 people, including 10 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 14,233 samples have been collected so far, including 106 on Sunday, out of which 30 are COVID contacts and 26 are COVID suspects. Out of them, 12,788 samples have turned out to be negative, including 132 on Sunday, and 266 reports are awaited.
As many as 1,179 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 40 on Sunday. As many as 1,051 patients have been discharged so far, and 126 cases are currently active. Two deaths have occured so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the 40 new cases reported on Sunday, 18 are men, 15 women and six children. Among them, 15 have travel history to Maharashtra, two are returnees from Bengaluru, and six are corona warriors including doctors and healthcare workers. One is a returnee from Bagalkote, and 16 are primary contacts of previous patients.
One among the new cases is an SSLC student in Padubidri, whose father and another family member have also tested positive. She had appeared for two of the ongoing SSLC exams, but will not be allowed to appear for the remaining exams. The examination centre and the room in which she had answered the exam has been sanitized.
