Mangaluru, Jun 27: Two Konkani girls, scholars of Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Programme setup by World Konkani Centre, Reshmi Bhat Gopinatha and Dr Megha N Shenoy, after completing their graduation in BE and MBBS respectively have joined armed forces to pursue their career in the service of the nation.
Reshmi Bhat Gopinatha, hailing from Kochi, Kerala, is the daughter of Sobha and Gopinath Bhat who is a worker in Kochin Tirumala Devaswam Temple managed by Konkani speaking Gowd Saraswath Brahmin community. Reshmi Bhat is an engineering graduate in Electronic & Communication Branch from Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kaladi, Kerala. After completing the graduation she got her placement in Tata Consultancy Services in Aerospace Domain and worked there for three years. Reshmi Bhat is only one girl among 16 graduates to be graduated from the 94th Aeronautical Engineering Course at Air Force Technical College, Jalahalli, Bengaluru on May 29 this year which marked the end of 74 weeks training, including 22 weeks at AFA Hyderabad in Aeronautical Engineering, MIL Leadership and MGR skills and ethos of an air warrior. She has been officially commissioned in to Indian Air Force as an officer in the technical branch.

Dr Megha N Shenoy, daughter of E D Narasimha Shenoy and Gomathi Shenoy, Bengaluru is a MBBS graduate from Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences. She served as a medical officer at primary health care centres in Mandya district during her rural service stint. While at it she applied to an opening in Armed Forces and got selected for Border Security Forces as assistant commandant medical officer. She is currently serving at Covid facilities.
While both girls are very active in the Alumni Association of Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Programme, Dr Megha N Shenoy is also the member of executive council of VAA.
President of World Konkani Centre, Basti Vaman Shenoy, has lauded the fete of these girls as inspiring to the girls of the entire Konkani Community. T V Mohandas Pai, under whose vision the scholarship programme has been started has congratulated their achievement. Ramadas Kamath U, president and Pradeep G Pai, secretary of Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Programme, Ullas Kamath, chief mentor and Giridhar Kamath, convener of KSHAMATA Academy, Nandagopal G Shenoy, general secretary and B R Bhat, treasurer of World Konkani Centre, have also sent their congratulatory messages.
