Panaji, Feb 16 (IANS) A 41-year-old Russian national was booked for murder in Goa Tuesday, after a local he had assaulted last week succumbed to injuries.
Speaking to IANS, Superintendent of Police (North District) Bosco George said Constantine Alexander Borowski was in police custody for an assault last Thursday (Feb 11), and he would now be booked under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
"Constantine was earlier arrested for grievous assault along with the locals, who were also booked for being part of the scuffle. With one of the persons, Rohidas Shetgaonkar, succumbing to injuries, a murder case has now been booked against the Russian," George said.
Constantine, who runs a bar and restaurant in the beach village of Morjim, was involved in a scuffle with a few locals Thursday night following an altercation near his establishment.
The Russian is in Goa on a business visa. The incident once again brings into focus rising crimes involving foreigners, especially Russians, in the coastal belt of Goa.
