Mangaluru, Jun 23: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, promised to make alternative arrangement for effluents processing at Pachanady by getting an estimated grant of Rs five crore from the government.
He was speaking at a meeting concerning issues arising out of the plant at Pachanady that is meant to treat effluents from underground drainage. The meeting was held at the administrative office of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama on Monday June 22.
The minister advised the officials of the city corporation to understand the seriousness of the problems faced by locals because of improper purification of effluents at Pachanady and to work hard to find a lasting solution.

He said that the technical problems faced by the effluents processing unit would be set right and the water will be treated before supplying to Pilikula. He expected a proper project to come into being as per a survey being conducted by NITK Surathkal by getting additional grants from the government.
Deputy commissioner of the city corporation Dr Santosh Kumar said that NITK Surathkal will be conducting a survey of the area, prepare a report on seriousness of the problems faced by the locals because of the effluents, get a work sheet by taking into account technical issues identified by the engineers and then the work will be executed in stages.
Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, pointed out that because of the improper functioning of the processing unit, water in the ponds, wells, tubewells etc in the area get contaminated and hence become unfit for consumption. He said that the effluents also flow into the Maravoor dam which supplies water to the multi-village drinking war supply scheme.
City mayor Divakar Pandeshwar, city corporation commissioner Shanadi Ajit Kumar Hegde and others were present.
