Sullia, Feb 13: Former minister and leader of the opposition in the state legislative council, Motamma, came down heavily on the state government for clipping the powers of the panchayat institutions. She was speaking after initiating various development works within Sampaje gram panchayat on Friday February 12.
“In the past, resolutions passed by the panchayats carried lot of weight. At present, all the powers have been transferred to the legislators at the cost of the panchayats. This has robbed the panchayats of their rights,” she felt.
Motamma noted that the political system of late has lost credibility and that those who come to politics with an ambition to work for the people, fail to get any power. “The crux of the problem is that money has been playing the pivotal role in elections,” she stressed.
Various leaders like T M Shahid, member, Coir Board of India, Bangalore R M Groups chairman, Abdul Khader Haji, taluk panchayat member, Somashekhar Koingaje, were present.
