Bantwal, Jun 13: Vehicle drivers and owners are saying that it is an adventure commuting on the stretch of B C Road-Punjalakatte road in the taluk on the national highway near Vilapura in the taluk.
Highway construction work is in progress on Bantwal bypass road and it is virtually impossible to drive vehicles on this stretch.
Road work from B C Road to Punjalakatte, which is a stretch of 19.85 km is being widened to make it two-way and also 10-meter wide. In addition, four-lane concrete road is being constructed between B C Road and Jakribettu which is 3.85 km in length and 14-meter wide.
The road work is on since a year. However, the work is not finished on time. Initially, the road was dug and asphalt mixed stones and mud was put on that part. Once rainy season started, the mud of the mixture was washed off and the road has numerous potholes and immersed in only mud.
The road is non-existing at present. The breaking down of vehicles is largely expected. It is true that due to Covid-19 pandemic, it was not possible to finish the work on time. However, the contractor must have made some effort to ease the life of the vehicle drivers on this stretch.
The contractor has the time till December to finish the work. However, priority should be given to repair the road so that it can be used by the commuters without any difficulty.
