Bengaluru, Jun 9: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa has reiterated the state government’s commitment for ensuring the comprehensive development of the entire Hyderabad-Karnataka region, which was renamed as Kalyana Karnataka on February 10 by his government.
Inaugurating the Kalyana Karnataka Human Resources Agriculture and Cultural Sangha’s office in Kalaburagi through video conferencing from his Home Office in Krishna in Bengaluru on Tuesday, he said the state government has already earmarked Rs 500 crore for the current year’s annual budget for the development of the six districts forming the Kalyana Karnataka.
“It is not enough to merely rename the region as Kalyana Karnataka but concerted efforts were needed to ensure comprehensive development of the region in the real sense. The skills of the people must be improved and they should be able to make significant contributions in the service sector,’’ he said.
Yediyurappa said the state government was determined to implement programmes for the development of the people by working in the sectors of agriculture, health, education, self-employment generation, strengthening of the villages and empowerment of youth and women and thereby lead to the birth of a new era of development.
The CM said Dr Basavaraj Patil Sedam, former MP and president of the Sangha, was a leader committed to the development of the region and was known for his service in diverse sectors.
“Development of any region must be people-centric and capable of utilizing the local talents, resources and help the people to improve their skill sets so as to contribute to the overall development,’’ Yediyurappa said.
The chief minister lauded the initiatives and programmes of the Sangha in starting 3,000 communication centres in all the six districts of the Kalyana Karnataka region.
Vijayapura Jnana Yogashram pontiff Sri Siddeshwara Swami, State Planning Commission deputy chairman B J Puttaswamy, Ballari MP Umesh Jadhav, Sangha president Dr Basavaraja Patil Sedam, chief minister’s political secretary Shankargouda Patil and others were present at the function.
