Udupi, Jun 9: “The school fees that is collected should be utilised only to pay salaries of teachers. Parents should not be insisted to buy school uniform and books from the same school,” said minister of Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar. He was speaking at a press meeting held at Udupi district panchayat meeting hall after a progress review meeting on Tuesday June 9.
He said, “SSLC examinations are scheduled on June 25. The pending exam for PU students will be held on June 18. The date for CBSE examination is fixed. Examinations are being held considering the wellbeing and future of students. Let there be no confusion. Students are preparing for examinations. Children of migrant workers are allowed to choose examination centres of their liking.
“Seating arrangements in the examination hall are modified for 18 children instead of 24. A gap of 3.5 feet is maintained between two desks. Indian scouts and guides will provide two masks for each student.
“A thermal scanner for every 200 students and sanitizers should be arranged in examination centres. Masks, gloves and sanitisers should be used. Drinking water should be brought from home.
“A discussion was held with minister Laxman Savadi regarding transport facilities in villages. The last rounds of revision classes will be held from June 12 till 20. As many as 278 review meetings were held in 34 districts. Arrangements for alternative examination centres are made if a centre falls in containment zone. Those who are unable to appear for current examinations can appear in supplementary examinations in July. They will be considered as freshers.
“Coronavirus infection is found among those who have come from outside the state and not among local people. Schools have been directed to obtain the opinions of parents and to hold discussions. Schools will be reopened only after August in stages. No school should insist for payment of fees. The collected fees should be used only for salaries of teachers,” he said.
Empowerment of government schools is my priority. Online classes should not be held for students of primary, UKG and LKG. A meeting will be held with physiatrists tomorrow to hold discussions on the subject,” he said.
